About Radha Raman Temple

The Radha Raman Temple is one of the most revered and historic temples of Vrindavan, dedicated to Lord Krishna.

It is significant for housing one of the oldest continuous images of Krishna in Vrindavan and is one of the most important and oldest temples in the holy city, built by disciples of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Radha Raman Temple History

  • The Radha Raman Temple was established in 1542 AD by Gopal Bhatta Goswami, one of the six Goswamis of Vrindavan and a beloved disciple of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

  • Gopal Bhatta Goswami originally worshipped 12 Shaligram Shilas (sacred stones) which he had brought from the Gandaki River in Nepal.

  • Deep in his heart, he longed to worship Lord Krishna in a beautiful deity form rather than only in Shila form.

  • It is said that on Vaishakha Purnima (full moon day of May 1542), one of his Shaligram Shilas miraculously manifested into the enchanting three-fold bending form of Radha Raman Ji.

  • Since then, Radha Raman Ji has been worshipped daily without interruption, making it one of the oldest continuously worshipped deities in Vrindavan.
