History of Govind Dev Ji Temple

  • The temple was built in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh of Jaipur, a general under Mughal emperor Akbar.

  • The deity of Govind Dev Ji was discovered by Rupa Goswami, a follower of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and is believed to be the exact replica of Krishna's form during his incarnation.

  • The temple has undergone destruction and reconstruction, with the original seven-storey structure being reduced to three storeys after Aurangzeb's invasion.
